My granddaughter had the biggest smile on her face, as did my grandson who was standing next to her in the picture that arrived on my phone. I couldn’t make out what she was holding, but it looked alive. This mystery was solved when a magnification clearly showed several worms in her hands. My grandchildren had dug up these worms in their backyard to give to a Momma Robin to feed her little ones who weren’t yet born. The nest was in a tree branch at the rear of the house. They were excited to be helping this new Momma and her babies, keeping a daily watch until the real excitement came as the eggs hatched and little mouths opened, wanting to be fed!

There was no computer screen nearby, no television, no Netflix, no I-pad. Just the nature that God created. And it was exciting to them!

How many are Your works, Lord!
In wisdom You made them all;
the earth is full of Your creatures.

(Psalm 104:24)

 What WONDER to hold God’s creation in our hands and what WONDER to behold the birth of life. But we might not truly appreciate this if not for the smile, excitement, and awe of a child.

 ⁷ But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
⁸ or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
⁹ Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
¹⁰ In His hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.

(Job 12:7-10)

Ask the children, and they will teach you.

¹At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”  ² He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. ³ And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ⁵ And whoever welcomes one such child in My name welcomes Me.” (Matthew 8:1-5)

 Our children are our teachers while we become the students who need the tutorial of how to appreciate the smallest creatures that we, otherwise, might overlook as common and unworthy of wonder.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  (Matthew 19:14)

Watch our children,

Wonder of Creation

In their eyes;

Behold the reflection

Cast into our own;

Watch our children,

To see God’s Wonders

All around us.
